Then I came back to pack for 6-7 hour train ride to Siracuse tomorrow morning at 8:55. Trains for the most part seem to be on time. I’ve only seen one delayed so far and they don’t wait for anyone. My ticket for this trip, if I purchased it on-line ahead of time was about $55 US for second class and $79 US for 1st class. It cost me only 15.70 euros by purchasing it here. There really is no first class on most trains in Sicily. Someone’s making some money off on-line train tickets. Here are a few more pictures of Cefalu:
Let’s talk breakfast…there’s no such thing as eggs and bacon or pancakes and waffles in Sicily. It’s pretty much pastry’s and I’ve found that I have a sweet tooth for a few of them. They are all so pretty. I’ve gained wait for sure, must watch what I eat when I return - lol. But ohhhh, so delicious. I pretty much eat one of the below for breakfast and then combine lunch and dinner to save on money and also because I’m not that hungry once I eat one of their meals…they really fill you up. I also try and drink lots of water, which then creates the need to find restrooms, which are scarce to the public and known here as WC’s.
Now, I suppose if you like weird fruit - not sure what most of it is - you could have that - or I have had oranges and there are stawberries for sale on the street corner.
The above bar/pastery shop had this cool light fixture:
Does my brain ever stop...I was thinking about my experience with traffic in Italy. I mentioned earlier in my blog that no one pays attention to “rules” when driving. I think this man put it best…”Driving is almost a religious experience for someone from more regulated countries:*Lane markings are for artisitic purposes only. To get the actual number of lanes, divide the road width by the car width... but feel free to change lanes at any or all times – us horn if necessary.
*Junctions are for crossing. Don't stop, don't even pause. He who hesitates is lost. Run light if necessary to keep your place in line.
*Keep going, don't give way, but don't dart around. Everyone does this and it works. If anyone else fails to follow any of these rules, or simply annoys you, sound that horn.
*Watch for motorcycles from behind on your right and left when turning…try to avoid them hitting your mirrors (or turn your mirror in to car as many do).
*Pay your damage excess waiver - just check out the fenders/bumpers on all the local cars.”
Someone's making money off Hello Kitty, its even big here in Sicily, Italy.
I’m watching TV and guess who came on? Remember I told you that we photographed these girls that we thought were movie stars and turned out they were nobody's...going to be on a reality TV show? Well, our girls from the limo are on TV right now. It’s a tv show on these girls that picked guys who are bookworms to be their boyfriends and it chronicles’ their time with the guys. Girls out shopping for clothes and guys out shopping for books. I wish I could understand what they are saying during the talking parts. But it looks like they are asking the girls questions that the boys know the answer to and they have to show if they learned anything being with the book worm guys; to earn money I'd guess. LOL
Just saw a funny commercial. A bunch of guys standing looking at a washing machine one holding his wash, and the other one says "It's a washing machine?"...and then they show that it is filled with ice and beer. Also interesting is that they have some of their commercials in English yet the programs are in Italian. We also noticed that they play ALOT of music in English in stores, not in Italian. I took a few videos of commercials for fun.
Just checked the internet and my B&B is about 27 min walking from train station and 8 min. by car. I may see ifI can find a bus that would drop me off at the beginning of the little island of Ortigia and walk the rest of the way. Let’s hope they don’t have bad cobblestone roads.
I think the worst part about moving from town to town is finding a way to get to your lodging with out paying an arm and a leg to the taxi's. Having my laptop has helped so I can go on-line and mapquest where my lodging is compared to the train station or airport. That helps, but it still doesn't tell much about bus schedules and where they drop off, cost, etc. Other then that I am enjoying the different locations I have visited. It's interesting that in Central Europe there was always an issues with toilets smelling and streets had that smell too, but in Sicily I have not had any of that so far. The toilet flushes great and there is no smell and there is plenty of hot water and good water flow also.
Well, must get up early tomorrow, 7:30, so that I can get to the train station by 8:30. If it's sunny I'll walk the 3/4 to 1 mile (with luggage in tow) - if not I'll have to call a taxi and pay 10 euros and hope they show up on time. Will decide at 7:30 what to do. Time for bed now.
Kyla shutting the lap top down for the last time in Cefalu.
